Volunteer Voices – Sandy Gold Raynes

What has been your favorite volunteer experience?

Meeting and talking with the service organization employees when delivering the meals and other donated items. It’s great to see positive programs and people assisting those in need.

How have you been involved with JVC?

Working with Jewish Volunteer Connection preparing, collecting, and delivering meals and other items to various service organizations in Baltimore City and County.

How have you found volunteering to be meaningful in your life?

Absolutely. It allows me to be involved and contribute in a meaningful way while meeting some wonderful people.

What advice would you give to other volunteers? What would you tell someone who may be nervous to commit or is new to volunteering?

It can be intimidating to join in with a large project and there are many options. You can be a part of larger and more social activities, or activities in a small group, or even just by yourself. Think about something that you enjoy doing and find a project to incorporate that interest.

What is your favorite hobby?

Baking and cooking.

What is your favorite time of day?

I have a bad habit of staying up late to get things done when it’s quiet.

What do you think is the best way for individual volunteers to become volunteer group leaders?

Start with an activity or project you are familiar and comfortable with.

What question do you have for our next Volunteer of the Month?

Have you become friends with any of the volunteers or staff you’ve worked with?
