JVC has adapted and responded to the COVID-19 pandemic while maintaining active and ongoing communication with our social service partners (nonprofits, schools, etc.) who identify their new and ongoing needs, which have evolved with the pandemic. JVC continues to mobilize volunteers to serve in a safe way and to meet these critical needs, including volunteering from home or out in the community following safety protocols.
Many of JVC’s VolunTeams have had to suspend their regular volunteer visits/projects, such as those that were in schools or on-site at nonprofits and service agencies due to health concerns. While most in-person volunteering is suspended, VolunTeams are pivoting and engaging their volunteers in various service initiatives that are both safe and impactful, meeting current and evolving needs of JVC’s service partners.

Join a VolunTeam! Too busy to make a long-term commitment to volunteering but still want to contribute the time you do have and volunteer with others? VolunTeams are groups comprised of individuals who work together and collectively make a commitment to provide for an organization’s needs. This is ideal for people who are interested in volunteering yet are hesitant to commit due to their busy schedules as this opportunity provides each volunteer with flexibility to decide how often they serve.
On-going VolunTeams have made a difference in the following projects:
Love to read aloud to an energetic audience? Bookworms is a once a month reading program that occurs in Title I elementary schools and engages volunteers in reading to students. Bring a new or gently-used book to share and donate to the classroom. Volunteers are welcome to participate as often as they are available. Currently, Bookworms programs are at the following schools: Milbrook Elementary and Timber Grove Elementary. For more information about upcoming dates, Click HERE.
Whether you want to learn how to knit OR you’re already a master, join this group of volunteer knitters as they socialize and knit for a cause. Help us stock up on hand-knit scarves and hats that are donated to vulnerable populations during JVC’s next Mitzvah Day event, one of JVC’s annual days of service. Skilled knitters are on-hand for instruction. Hand-knit scarves and hats are collected year-round for Mitzvah Day. For more information about upcoming dates, Click HERE.
Looking for a fun and gratifying family activity? Want to make a difference in the life of a senior? Geared towards families with young children (3 months – preschool), Playdate Together is a multi-generational interactive program that includes sing-alongs, books, and more at a senior facility. Playdate Together brightens the senior residents day. For more information about upcoming dates, contact Erica Bloom at ebloom@associated.org or 410-369-9302.
