Bookworms Opportunities

BOOKWORMS

Missing your school days or have a love for reading?  Enjoy the energy, curiosity and spirit of children?  Give one hour a month (or as often as possible) and volunteer with JVC’s Bookworms program. Choose one or more of JVC’s Bookworms programs below, located in various Baltimore City and County public schools! It’s low commitment and high impact.

Share your love of reading with young, eager learners one hour a month. Bookworms is a once-a-month program that engages volunteers in reading to elementary school students to enhance their love for reading.

Bring a new or gently-used book to read and donate to the classroom to be read by others. Volunteers are welcome to participate as often as they are available at as many schools as you wish. Currently, the Bookworms program is in several elementary schools on the following dates and times:

TUTORING

Tutor in math, writing or reading

Help a K-5 student get ahead by spending your time tutoring in the subjects of math, reading or writing at either Bedford, Cross Country, Fallstaff, or Milbrook Elementary Schools.  Your time will be rewarding and well-spent working with either individual or groups of students in their classroom. We will match your subject interest, preferred grade level and schedule with the needs at the school.

 Tutor with RPrinteading Partners

Enjoy the one-to-one experience of helping a child improve their reading skills? Let us match you with a student at one of over 15 Baltimore City schools for a rewarding read.  Reading Partners, a national program which partners with schools and uses a set curriculum, relies on volunteers to work one-on-one with students to help improve their literacy and succeed in school.  No teaching experience is necessary and on-site training will be provided for this volunteer opportunity.  Your commitment can be once or twice a week and you will work with the same student each week, allowing you to see the progress and growth of the student over the course of the school year.
