Volunteers are needed at Northstar Baltimore to tutor/mentor children. Northstar Baltimore (NB) is a free one-on-one tutoring/mentoring program that matches an elementary or middle school student in a low income Baltimore neighborhood with a volunteer tutor/mentor, with the goal of establishing a caring adult relationship to help the student become more successful.
For the new school year, NB needs volunteers to work once a week for 1.5 hours with students at their headquarters at the Martin Pollak Project in Highlandtown. NB will train and prepare you to be an effective tutor/mentor – just bring yourself and a willingness to learn and commit to a student during the school year. Tutors are needed once a week on any of the following days- Tuesday from 6:00-7:30pm, Wednesday from 2:30-4:00pm, or Wednesday from 6:00-7:30 pm.
Commitment: Once per week for 90 minutes, and meet once a month for mentoring activities for the entire school year (late August to mid-June). There may be opportunities to volunteer for only one semester, please inquire if interested.
Restrictions: Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
*Fingerprinting, Child Protective Services Background Check required through Northstar Baltimore.
