Family Mentors needed at Soccer Without Borders (SWB). Soccer Without Borders uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change, helping to provide newcomer (refugee, immigrant, and asylee) youth with a toolkit for achieving personal and academic success. SWB provides participants with year-round soccer programming as well as opportunities for English Language Development, teambuilding, leadership, mentoring, and social inclusion. Family mentors are matched with a newcomer family in Baltimore and meet with the family at their home to work on an individualized plan that enables families to practice English, navigate social services, and develop cross-cultural friendships. This is a great opportunity for families to connect with one another!
Commitment: Volunteers are asked to commit to at least 2 hours per week for one year (volunteers work with the family they are matched with to pick a date and time each week).
Location: Northeast Baltimore City and southeast Baltimore County
Restrictions: Volunteers must be at least 25 years old. Volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Interview process is required for this position.
