Delivery Driver at Weekend Backpacks

  • Posted 2 years ago

Weekend Backpacks supports  nearly 1200 Baltimore City students (through 42 schools) each week who are experiencing food insecurity. Weekend Backpacks delivers bags of food that offer meals for a family of 4 throughout the weekend.

Weekend Backpacks is seeking volunteer drivers who can pick up bags of food from their Pikesville warehouse and deliver to schools throughout Baltimore City. Volunteers are typically assigned the same school every week, but are sometimes needed to step in with delivery to other schools.

Commitment:  Weekly is preferred, though some drivers share their assigned school with another driver. Deliveries take place Thursdays and Fridays, between 8am-1pm. Each driver spends between 90 min-2 hours in total, depending on the school.

Location: Pikesville/Upper Park Heights AND Downtown Baltimore/Baltimore City

Restrictions: Volunteers must be able to lift at least 10 pounds and help school employees with deliver (which may include unloading bags). Deliveries usually include 30 bags. Volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and a car that is able to hold 40 grocery bags. Volunteers MUST be comfortable with city driving. One hour virtual introduction/training required.
