Volunteer drivers needed for the CHAIway program! CHAI strengthens neighborhoods with a significant Jewish presence by developing and enhancing housing, affecting community development, and supporting aging-in-community. CHAI’s Aging in Community Division-Wide Goal is to strengthen Northwest Baltimore by helping older residents remain safe, well and independent in their homes as long as possible, living lives of purpose and engaged in the community.
CHAI has identified transportation as one of the biggest needs of the senior population. Many older adults would like to attend events, visit friends, run errands but have no way to get there. In addition to providing a much-needed service, volunteer drivers engage with their passengers and form relationships that help combat isolation and loneliness for these older adults. The experience is extremely meaningful and rewarding for the volunteers as well as the riders.
CHAI hosts a monthly event at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Everyone is welcome to come and learn more, and coffee is complements of CHAIway.
In hopes of making the program accessible and easy for volunteers to join and participate CHAI also runs two orientation sessions each month. They are scheduled for the first Tuesday of the month at CHAI’s office or the third Tuesday of the month at the Myerberg. Individual orientations are also available to fit with your schedule.
