JVC’s Hurricane Relief Mission

*** JVC’s December Hurricane Relief Mission is currently full. Please email amalis@associated.org to be added to a list of volunteers to notify about last minute openings or future volunteer missions!***

Looking for a way to help people devastated by the hurricanes? Register for JVC’s Hurricane Relief Mission to Houston! JVC Volunteers will join NECHAMA, a Jewish volunteer organization that provides natural disaster preparedness, response, and recovery services nationwide, to assist their response efforts in Houston.

In August 2017, Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Texas, devastating large sections of the Texas coast and inland where rainfall totals reached 40+ inches of rain. The Associated has raised significant relief funds and JVC volunteers made additional contributions with gift cards and other donations to help recent hurricane victims.

This mission will be generously subsidized by Jewish Volunteer Connection (JVC) and The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore.

Work: We will be mucking, gutting and cleaning homes damaged by the hurricane. Roll up your sleeves and expect to get dirty while helping homeowners recover from the loss of possessions and their home.

Volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. Anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost: Participants are responsible for the cost and arrangement of flights as well as any plans alternative to what JVC is providing.

Travel:

  • Flights: JVC can recommend flights if requested.

    • Flights are to be arranged and paid for by volunteer participants.

    • Monday, December 4th – JVC strongly recommends volunteers arrive in Houston by 4:30pm to use the provided group transportation.

    • If a volunteer participant wants alternative lodging, it is their responsibility and cost.

Food:

  • All provided food will be kosher.

  • Breakfast will be provided by the hotel.

  • Lunch will be at the worksite and provided. Volunteers may need to assist in packing lunches.
