Volunteers are invited to participate in on-going service projects in the gym throughout the event. Volunteers will also participate in age-appropriate learning sessions. A preview of these sessions and the actual program is below. It’ll be engaging, thought provoking and a meaningful event!

PROGRAM GUIDE for JCC COMMUNITY PROJECT:

1:00 p.m. – Registration opens, *walk-ins welcome
1:10– 1:20 p.m. – Kick-off
1:30–  2:15 p.m. – Service Learning Experiences for Teens and for Families with Young Children

JEA Room –  How can I help?  (program geared toward middle and high school students)
Speakers from The Baltimore Station, an innovative therapeutic residential treatment program supporting veterans and others who are transitioning through the cycle of poverty, will educate volunteers on the work they do in our community. Volunteers will write letters to their clients thanking them for their military service.

CJE CRAFTS room –  Storytime with PJ Library  (program geared toward families with children ages 2-6)
Join PJ Library as they share a story reflecting Dr. King’s dream and make magnets to gift to Meals on Wheels recipients.

2:15 p.m. – 2:50 p.m. – Service Learning Experiences for Elementary-aged Families and Adults

Auditorium –  Making everyone feel welcome (program geared toward families with elementary school students)
Volunteers will read and explore “Fair Housing Five,” a children’s book exploring the issues of housing discrimination in our community. Volunteers will then have the opportunity to make welcome signs that they can choose to hang up at home.

Community Room – Turning Education into Action! (program geared toward adults)
Adult volunteers will learn in depth about the root causes of homelessness in our community, with speakers from Healthcare for the Homeless. Baltimore Jewish Council will be on hand to give tips and techniques on ways to become an advocate on the local and state level.

On-going – Hands on Volunteering in the Gym
Join us in the gym before and/or after your learning session and take part in the following activities!

  • Decorate and assemble blessing bags
  • Make snack mixes for the Baltimore Station
  • Decorate cookies for Our Daily Bread
  • Create birthday cards for residents of Levindale
  • Make craft kits for Sarah’s Hope shelters
  • Decorate tzedakah boxes with The Associated
