Join more than a thousand other volunteers and make a huge impact in one day! There are volunteer opportunities for every age, interest, and ability. Jewish Volunteer Connection is proud to present our Mitzvah Day 2018.

Want to help support Mitzvah Day? Please consider donating via our Amazon Wish List! All items will be used in our Winter Care Packages on December 25th. Winter Care Packages are assembled and donated to people in need on Mitzvah Day.

New This Year! Volunteers register for each project individually by clicking on the button immediately below the project you are interested in. If there are available spaces, register, and you are all set! If you want to register for multiple projects you will need to complete the registration for each project.

Mitzvah Extravaganza at JCC Mega Sites on December 25th

The epicenters of Mitzvah Day activities are located at both the Weinberg Park Heights and Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCCs where hundreds of volunteers assemble 2,000 Winter Care Packages and participate in dozens of other hands-on volunteer projects in the ever-expanding Mitzvah Room. Volunteers of all ages are welcome to both JCCs.

Mitzvah Day at Weinberg Park Heights JCC

Join us at Park Heights for our signature program assembling 1,500 Winter Care Packages, as well as a large Mitzvah Room with dozens of service projects like making fleece blankets and decorating cards for soldiers. Open to all ages!

Mitzvah Day at Rosenbloom Owings Mills JCC
December 25th – 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

The Owings Mills JCC will also have mitzvah projects that appeal to all ages! Make fleece blankets, assemble winter care packages, and much more. Open to all ages!

Delivery Drivers for Both JCCs
December 25th – Shifts between 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Drivers are needed to deliver the assembled Winter Care Packages from one of the JCCs to various service sites throughout Baltimore and the surrounding area.  Drivers will meet at the JCC and be given their assignments.  Mini vans or SUVs preferred!


Volunteer Throughout the Community

Join with other impassioned and committed volunteers at sites throughout Baltimore on both December 24 and December 25 to meet vital community needs.  Projects include assisting in shelters, soup kitchens, and senior facilities, allowing volunteers the opportunity to help the homeless, sick, needy and isolated in Baltimore.

Sign Up Early, Availability is Limited

**Project leaders are needed for some of our projects.  The project leader is responsible for acting as the liaison between the service site and the volunteers.  Project leaders will be provided with a job description and resources.  If you are interested in being a project leader, please indicate so on your registration form.

Opportunities on December 24

Deliver Gifts with Santa’s Helpers Anonymous
December 24th – 8:30 a.m.- 11:30 a.m.

Volunteers deliver food and presents to families in need across the Greater Baltimore Area.  Volunteers will be assigned to one of 4 shifts beginning at 8:30 a.m.  The last shift begins at 10:30 a.m.  Shifts should not take more than two hours. There are spots available for at least 10 drivers.  Each driver is welcomed and encouraged to bring additional volunteers with them to help (2-3 people per car). Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate in this project.

Young Adult Mitzvah Day with Repair the World Baltimore

Repair the World Baltimore Workshop – 3700 Eastern Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21224
Celebrate the holiday season with service: Repair the World Baltimore, in partnership with Moishe House, IMPACT, and Cham City Tribe, will be hosting a holiday celebration like no other on Monday evening! Volunteers will pack shoe boxes for people experiencing homelessness as part of Operation Shoebox, make no-sew fleece blankets, assemble craft kits, and more! Food and drink provided.

Volunteers will meet at the JMM parking lot to team up and distribute Operation Shoeboxes: Gift boxes filled with care items to Baltimoreans experiencing homelessness.

Volunteers are needed to help serve breakfast for the clients of Weinberg Housing and Resource Center.  Weinberg Housing Resource Center is an emergency shelter that provides homeless services to over 275 men and women each night in the city of Baltimore.

Volunteers are needed to provide, prepare and serve a meal for the clients of My Sister’s Place.  My Sister’s place provides daily meals and access to services such as case management, education and job training to women in Baltimore City.

Volunteers are needed to provide, prepare and serve a lunch for the clients of Beans and Bread, a homeless day resource program that serves 300 people daily.

The Helping Up Mission – Lunch Meal Preparation

Volunteers are needed to help prepare a meal for the clients of The Helping Up Mission. Volunteers will be working in the kitchen to help prepare lunch but will not be serving the meal. The Helping Up Mission is both a day center and an overnight shelter for men in need.

Support Those With Special Needs

Learn to Caption with Macks Center for Jewish Education

Learn how to correct auto captions on your favorite Jewish YouTube videos so that people who are Deaf or hard of hearing can enjoy them too! Martha Goodman will explain the steps involved in correcting YouTube’s notoriously inaccurate auto captions for the first half hour.  You can take the information home and do this work anytime on your computer or stay longer and get to work immediately on our computers or your laptop.

Mitzvah Day at Baltimore Hebrew Congregation

Make School Supply Kits with Jewish Museum of Maryland

Bring your family and give back to our community with thousands of other volunteers across Baltimore. This year we will be working to support the Esperanza Center, a Baltimore-based organization whose mission is to welcome immigrants by offering hope, compassionate services, and the power to improve their lives. We will be working together to create backpacks filled with school supplies (and homemade stress balls!) for their students. Activities are suitable for all ages and no artistic talent is required.

Beth Am Gift Package Assembly/Delivery and Mitzvah Room

Join Beth Am congregants to bake food and assemble gift packages for delivery to families in the Reservoir Hill neighborhood. We will also be collecting canned and boxed food for the care packages in the chapel lobby any time before or on Christmas Day.

Mitzvah Day with Jewish Federation of Howard County and PJ Library of Howard County

Family-friendly hands-on volunteer projects making trail mix bags for Paul’s Place, assembling no-sew blankets for Project Linus, creating Mugs of Love for Meals on Wheels, making Blessing Bags for the homeless, and designing “giving bags” for grocery donations.  We will also be accepting donations of women’s underwear or lounge-wear for clients of the Jewish Community Social Worker and Walmart and Target gift cards for clients of the Jewish Emergency Network. Snacks and entertainment for the whole family! *Most appropriate for families with children 9 and under.*
