It’s that time of year, Mitzvah Day is back! Sign up to participate in a community-wide Mitzvah Day, hosted by Jewish Volunteer Connection (JVC), and provide instrumental impact within our Greater Baltimore Community. Volunteer opportunities are available for every age, interest, and ability within our community, at-home, or at our Signature Site.

Sunday, December 25

Chizuk Amuno Congregation- new location this year! (8100 Stevenson Road, Pikesville, 21208)  

JVC is bringing back our Signature Site, now at Chizuk Amuno Congregation! Join us as we assemble 2,200 Winter Care Packages, prepare hundreds of bagged meals, participate in various other hands-on service opportunities led by our partners, learn about the mitzvah of giving, and more. Projects will be available for individuals and families of all ages and all abilities. 

Keeping in mind the health and safety of our guests and staff members, Jewish Volunteer Connection (JVC) will continue to monitor the safety practices and protocols, recommended by the venue, local, state and CDC guidelines at the time of the event. All guests attending events, meetings and programs are highly encouraged to be fully vaccinated, wear masks when not actively eating or drinking, and to practice social distance. If you or anyone in your family is not feeling well, please refrain from attending.

Mitzvah Day To-Go Kits

Participate in Mitzvah Day right from your own home or travel destination! Or gather safely with friends and family to make a difference for others. Join JVC for two project options that you can complete in your own space, while supplies last. All projects are available for pick up from the Weinberg Park Heights JCC at 5700 Park Heights Avenue starting December 1st.

No-Sew Fleece Blankets: Put together a no-sew fleece blanket to help keep adults and children warm this winter. Just order supplies online, pick up from one of the JCCs, and return completed blankets by Jan. 15 for donation. Blankets will be donated to local schools, shelters, and other nonprofits. Gratitude Cards: *No cost* Color notes of gratitude and hand them out to people in your own life who deserve a thank you. Perhaps it’s a friend or family member, a colleague, a local business staff member, a teacher, or someone else. Cards available while supplies last. Volunteering Throughout the Community

Activity Hour at Ronald McDonald House (WAIT LIST)
Saturday, December 24

Ronald McDonald House Charities (1 Aisquith Street, Baltimore, 21202)

Volunteers are needed to assist with arts and crafts, games, sing-along, and musical performances at evening activity hour at Ronald McDonald House. Ronald McDonald House provides a home away from home for children being hospitalized for serious illnesses. Volunteers should plan and facilitate fun activities for the families. Garage parking is available for volunteers. Volunteers must arrive at 6:30pm to set up-activity hour will begin at 7pm.

Serve Breakfast at My Sister’s Place Women’s Center

Volunteers are needed to prepare and serve a meal to women and children at My Sister’s Place Women’s Center. My Sister’s Place Women’s Center is a day resource center for women and children in Baltimore City. Street and garage parking is available for volunteers.

Volunteer Capacity: 5 individuals
Volunteer Restrictions: Volunteers must be at least 14 years old and have a parent/guardian present. Volunteers 16 and older do not need a parent/guardian present. All volunteers must wear a mask at all times and be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

The Baltimore Station is an innovative therapeutic residential treatment program supporting veterans and others who are transitioning through the cycle of poverty, addiction, and homelessness to self-sufficiency. A parking lot is available for volunteers. Volunteers must arrive at 10am to set up-meal service will begin at 11am.

Volunteer Capacity: 6 individuals
Volunteer Restrictions: Volunteers must be at least 10 years old and volunteers ages 10-17 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Volunteers 17 and older do not need parent/guardian supervision. All volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Masks must be worn at all times.

Volunteers are needed to assist with holiday lunch and entertainment at Innterim House. Innterim House is a short-term, transitional shelter for families experiencing homelessness in Baltimore County. Volunteers should plan and facilitate fun activities for the families. A parking lot is available for volunteers.

Volunteer Restrictions: Volunteers must be at least 13 years old; volunteers ages 13-16 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. Volunteers 16 and older do not need parent/guardian supervision. Post Mitzvah Day Donation Delivery Drivers
Between December 27th, 2022 – January 14th, 2023

Volunteer drivers are needed to deliver donations made and assembled during Mitzvah Day to JVC’s nonprofit and school partners. Volunteers will transport donated items from Chizuk Amuno Congregation (on Dec 27th only) and from the JVC office (at the Park Heights JCC starting on Dec 28th) to a nonprofit or school site. Delivery windows after 12/27 are Tuesday afternoons, Thursday mornings, and Thursday afternoons with exact times to be coordinated between JVC staff, volunteer drivers, and the recipient organizations.

Volunteer Capacity: no maximum
Volunteer Restrictions: Volunteer drivers must be at least 21 years old with their own personal vehicle.

Prepare Food for Meal Service

Drop Off Food to be Served at Mitzvah Day
Friday, December 23, 8:00 – 10:00am
Outside Chizuk Amuno Congregation (8100 Stevenson Road Baltimore, 21208)

Volunteers are needed to prepare food that will be served at various meal services on Sunday, December 25th.  Volunteers are asked to purchase or prepare a protein, side, vegetable/salad, and dessert for each of the 8 meal service opportunities. Food must be dropped off at Chizuk Amuno Congregation (8100 Stevenson Road Baltimore, 21208) between 8:00-10:00am on Friday, December 23rd. Food must be refrigerated, labeled with item and date prepared, and in appropriate containers (e.g. disposable 9×13 pans, trays, etc.). Volunteers must select the food item they will prepare and drop off through the sign up sheet linked below.

Volunteers are needed to deliver food to Community Mitzvah Day nonprofit partners that will be served at various meal services on Sunday, December 25th.  Volunteers should arrive at Chizuk Amuno Congregation (8100 Stevenson Road Baltimore, 21208) on Friday, December 23rd at 10:00am and will be delivering food to various partners throughout Baltimore City & Baltimore County. Volunteers should select the organization they will deliver to on the sign up sheet linked below.

Volunteer Restrictions: must be 21 years or older and have a personal vehicle.
